On Thursday, August 2, 2018, Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow (FIT) held our Annual Back-to-School fair for all of our FIT families and their kids, in order to help them get ready for the upcoming school year. We know that for many, school supplies can be a big cost, especially when many families are getting on their feet, and FIT wanted to make sure they were taken care of!
Children, alongside their parents got to go through and pick out their own school supplies that were being handed out by the FIT staff. The kids were able to choose a backpack, lunch box, folders, notebooks, pens, pencils, markers and everything else they needed! With designs and colors of every kind, the kids enjoyed getting to personalize their supplies to their own style. All of the lunch boxes were packed to show what would be a good lunch idea. To help them start the school year off right, each child received a voucher to get a haircut. The kids also received a bag of freshly grown goodies from the community garden as well as other treats.
Families were able to get to know our staff better, other families, and enjoy food and refreshments while the children shopped for their supplies. FIT was able to provide 75 children with some much-needed school supplies and get them excited to start the new school year! The entire FIT staff worked hard in order to put the Back-to-School fair together. It was a huge success, and a joy to see all the smiling faces of the kids and their parents!
We would like to give a huge thank you to our board members Jim and Judy Kropid for their donation, Rob Sheridan and Cashman Photography for taking photos, Vegas Roots Community Garden and Three Square for the food donations, and our neighbors Expertise Cosmetology Institute for providing vouchers for free haircuts.
