Twelve students graduated from the Standards of Excellence Academy in northwest Las Vegas recently. Shown with the group on the left is Becky Chandler, a long-time nurse who taught the class.

The curriculum includes a minimum of eight hours to a maximum of 120 hours depending on the course.

Among the students graduating was Nicole Brinkman, a native Las Vegan who went to Shadow Ridge High School before graduating from Arbor View High in 2007 in the northwest valley.

“I found out about Standards of Excellence by browsing the website,” she said. “I took the course and the staff is amazing. I called Sydni Sales and she got me all of the paperwork necessary. The course started the first week of November and ended Dec. 20. I am so thankful that I found a teacher like Becky Chandler. Her experience and her stories are what stuck with every student in the class.”

Las Vegas native and Standards of Excellence graduate Nicole Brinkman is headed for University of Northern Colorado in Greeley where she will further her education.

Brinkman applied for nursing school in Colorado. A graduate of Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. where she attained a bachelor of science degree in biology, she is planning to be relocated to the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley sometime in January for classes that start Jan. 9.

“I have been told that because of my attitude and enthusiasm that I’d be a very good teacher,” she said. “I had great teachers in high school so I know how valuable it is to be enthusiastic. I also want to be an inspiring teacher someday.”

Courses taught at Standards of Excellence Academy lead to recognized certifications including Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA), Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS), Certified Logistics Associate (CLA), Certified Logistics Technician (CLT) and Certified Fort Lifting (CFL).

Conducted in front of a good crowd of admirers and well-wishers, the ceremony was presented in the Standards of Excellence Academy great room.

The Standards of Excellence Academy (SoE) is an educational facility with a curriculum designed for people who have completed high school or equivalency and now need some specialized training in their job sector. The curriculum is designed to help people acquire the skills and accreditation that employers demand.

The curriculum includes a minimum of eight hours to a maximum of 120 hours depending on the course.

Standards of Excellence is situated at 1931 Stella Lake Drive near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard in the northwest Las Vegas valley. SoE is a non-profit Nevada Corporation.
